About this guide
Choose the right source first: an owned profile, a permitted platform profile, or a manual card for incomplete history. Another owner’s profile may require approval.
Before you start
The editor for a pet you manage.
The relative’s role and a reliable source.
At least two search characters or an exact HPS ID/link for Platform search.
Steps
Select the child card.
Add father or mother and choose Manual, My pets, or Platform.
Complete the manual card or select the correct profile.
For further generations, add parents to the existing parent card.
Add partners only from the root pet in the current editor.
Check duplicates, cycles, dates, species, sex, and role.
Save and review any approval state.
Parent roles
A child can have one father and one mother. The same profile cannot fill both roles.
Another owner’s profile
Search returns only permitted details. The link may wait for owner approval; a complete recipient decision screen is not promised.
Replace a manual card
Find the real profile, confirm linking, and verify that lines and litters remain. Remove the duplicate manual representation.
Remove a relationship
Removing a graph element does not delete the profile, documents, photos, or ownership history. A confirmed link may need a revocation workflow.
Protection
Self-links, ancestry cycles, a third parent, and duplicate profile use are blocked.
Final checklist
Verify the root pet, duplicate cards, parent roles, ancestry direction, dates, species, and breed. For each litter, review parents, date, child count and order, and the single birth-litter rule. Do not turn an assumption into an exact fact. Check external profiles and approvals, run analysis again, and choose Save once. Read draft and publication status separately. Before sharing, verify family-history visibility and the signed-out public page. Generate a fresh PNG or PDF after important changes because an existing file will not update automatically.
What happens after saving
The Save button submits the whole working graph. After it succeeds, read the editor message: it states separately whether the published pedigree was updated or only a draft was kept for correction.
A draft is not the same as publication
Manual card and pet profile
A manual card exists only inside the pedigree and does not create a HappyPetSpace pet profile. A pet profile has an owner, HPS ID, and its own visibility settings; profile data is edited in the profile, not in the pedigree’s manual card.
